A pair of Chinese Tang Dynasty hollow moulded terracotta female polo players on horseback.
Each figure sensitively portrayed astride a galloping horse in characteristic court dress of the Tang period, their rosy cheeks and make up indicates their status in the imperial court as Princesses or concubines.
The original pigmentation survives largely intact, the colour remains vibrant to both, remarkable given their manufacture was one thousand three hundred years ago, no restorations are evident or reported, they have a huge presence in the room and are the best examples we have seen.
Tang Dynasty, Circa : AD 618-906.
Both figures are supplied with a full and individual Thermoluminescence dating analysis report from Laboratory Kotalla, Germany.
Red horse and rider dimensions:
Height 15in (38cm) x Width 6.5in (16.5cm) x Lenght 19in (48cm), Height including mount 19.5in (50cm).
White horse and rider dimensions:
Height 14in (35.5cm) x Width 8in (20cm) x Lenght 19in (48cm), height including mount 19in (48cm).
Both are supplied with the perspex mounts as shown.
